This is my design for a fully functional, print-in-place hinge, specifically created for the FFF process using PETG or ASA materials. It is a medium-strength design with the series number 200. Two 80mm length hinges of this design will easily hold acrylic or wooden furniture doors.
Dimensions and Tolerances
The part number for all hinges follows this format:
LR2204-200-T<tolerance>-<length>.3mf
Tolerances
Tolerance is a number between T10
and T90
indicating the adjustments from the “ideal” tolerances of the model. The number T50
represents zero adjustments, with higher numbers indicating a looser fit and lower numbers indicating tighter fits. For this model, each step adjusts the tolerances by 0.01mm. Different tolerances will also change the center distance.
Recommended Screw Sizes
The hinge is designed for 3.5mm or 4mm wood screws with flat or round heads. A flat head with a diameter of 6-8mm is needed to create the necessary pressure to fasten the hinge correctly to its base. All screw holes should be used to ensure proper fastening and to prevent damage.
Hinge Length
The hinge length indicated in the part number is the desired length of the hinge. The actual hinge is always equal to or shorter than this value. For example, if you need space for an 80mm hinge, the LR2204-200-T50-080
model will surely fit your space, though it may be up to 3mm shorter than the specified length.
Center Distance / Closed Height
This hinge is suitable for furniture doors and lids. The rotation axis center is in the exact middle of the hinge at the specified “center distance”. In its closed shape, the hinge has exactly twice the height of the center distance.
To attach the hinge for a door, create a cavity about 0.5-1mm less deep than the center distance, approximately 23-24mm in width, and as long as the hinge. The center of the hinge should be slightly over the edge of the side (0.2-1mm). Mirror the same cavity on the door.
Alternatively, you can make the cavity about 0.5-1mm less deep than the entire height of the hinge and add a radius to the side of the furniture to match the radius of the hinge.
