This is my design of a fully functional, print-in-place hinge, specially created for the FFF process using PETG or ASA material. It boasts a high-strength build with the series number 300, making it perfect for heavy furniture doors and lids of chests and boxes.
Dimensions and Tolerances
The part number for all hinges follows this format:
LR2204-300-T<tolerance>-<length>.3mf
Tolerances
Tolerance is a number between T10 and T90, indicating the adjustments from the “ideal” tolerances of the model. The number T50 is the middle, meaning zero adjustments. Higher numbers denote a looser fit, while lower numbers reflect tighter fits. For this model, each step modifies the tolerances by 0.01mm.
Note: Different tolerances will also change the centre distance!
Recommended Screw Sizes
This hinge is crafted for 4.5mm or 5mm counter-sink wood screws. Care should be taken to fasten the screws by hand to prevent material deformation or cracking.
All screw holes should be used to properly secure the hinge and avoid damage.
Hinge Length
The hinge length in the part number signifies the desired length of the hinge. The actual hinge is always equal to or shorter than this value. For instance, if you have room for an 80mm hinge, the LR2204-300-T50-080 model will fit this space but may be up to 4mm shorter.
Center Distance / Closed Height
Ideal for furniture doors and lids, the rotation axis centre is precisely in the middle at the specified “centre distance”. When closed, the hinge’s height doubles the centre distance.
To attach it to a door, create a cavity about 0.5-1mm shorter than the centre distance with about 20-21mm width and as long as the hinge length. The hinge centre should slightly overhang the side edge by 0.2-1mm. Mirror this cavity on the door.
Alternatively, make the cavity 0.5-1mm less deep than the hinge’s total height, adding a matching radius to the furniture side, aligning with the hinge.
