This is my design of an elegantly swung hook to hang clothes or bags onto a clothes rail. I aimed to create a hook with a classic shape but a simple and functional profile. The elegantly swung curve at the lower end is intentionally not a perfect circle, making the opening larger and thus more useful.
Dimensions
The part number and file name have the following format:
LR2260-W<hook width>-R<lower radius>-D<rail diameter>.3mf
Hook Width and Height (W)
Dimension W defines both the width and the height of the hook. The number after the letter in the filename is the measurement in mm. The height is calculated by multiplying the width by 1.5.
Clothes Rail Diameter (D)
Dimension D denotes the nominal diameter of the clothes rail. The number after the letter is the measurement in mm. While the hook is compatible with round rails, it can also be used with rounded rectangle rails. For these, the maximum height is twice the diameter to prevent easy sliding.
Lower Radius (R)
Dimension R indicates the radius of the hook’s lower curve. The number following the letter is the radius in mm. A larger radius creates more space and a bigger lower section of the hook.
PDF Catalog
The project includes 160 different model files, so I created a PDF as a visual guide for all models. This is especially useful if you know one parameter and are searching for a specific visual ratio. The PDF catalog is available in the file LR2261 Catalog.pdf.
About the Design
The hooks LR2258 and LR2260 feature technical and simple designs, prompting me to also develop a hook with a classic shape. The profile mirrors that of LR2260, accommodating a wide range of nozzle sizes and layer heights. The pleasing ratio between the flat sides and chamfers not only simplifies prints but also adds a beautiful effect when using shiny filaments.
PLA is not Ideal for Heavy Weights
If using PLA, note that it isn’t ideal for heavy weights as it will slowly deform over time under stress. Hence, PLA hooks should be reserved for lighter weights.
Maximum Weights
The example print “LR2260-W12-R25-D15”, crafted with PETG, can easily hold a bag weighing 3kg or more. The maximum weight capacity is influenced by the chosen hook width and material.
