The Box of Cubes: A Decorative Storage Solution in 41 Sizes

The Box of Cubes: A Decorative Storage Solution in 41 Sizes

I designed this box of cubes as a decorative storage container with a lid. This box is not only aesthetically pleasing but also incredibly practical. It doesn’t require any supports during printing, and it uses minimal material while maintaining stability. The design looks exceptional with both opaque and transparent filaments.

Model Updates

  • Update 2023-01-22: I updated all prints to revision 2 to improve durability and functionality.
  • Update 2023-01-21: Introduced Variant B, which features a higher knob for the hinges, suitable for PETG prints and larger PLA prints.

Dimensions and Variants

The dimensions of the box are described through a unique part number included in the filename, for instance:

LR2302-BOX-<variant>-H<height>W<width>D<depth>.3mf

  • Variant A: Ideal for smaller PLA prints (width ≤ 150mm), with a hinge knob height of 0.8mm.
  • Variant B: Suited for PETG or larger PLA prints, featuring a hinge knob height of 1.5mm to secure the lid better.

The height, width, and depth are indicated by the number of cubes that form the box along each dimension. For example, a designation of 03 means the dimension is three cubes long, with each cube measuring 30mm.

Revisions

  • Revision 2: In this update, I incorporated a protective brim around the lid, enhancing its strength and reducing stress on the cube edges. This revision also adjusts the spacing between the lid and the box for smoother operation and minimizes geometric imperfections along the hinge, allowing for better print results. However, if you prefer the earlier design, files for Revision 1 are available in the “other files” section.

These boxes can be seamlessly integrated with the rail grids of my existing storage box system, creating a cohesive organizing solution.
