I designed these cable tidy spools to address the problem of tangled cables and difficulty differentiating between similar-looking cords. Initially, I used rubber bands and cable clips, but these were not effective in keeping cables neatly organized.
While searching for solutions, I found many inspiring ideas but none that matched all the features I had in mind. Thus, I decided to create a completely new design for a cable spool.
My goals were clear: design a spool that is quick to print, requires minimal filament, and offers a reliable, neat storage solution for various USB and other types of cables.
Cable Diameters
This collection includes models for cable diameters of 3.5mm. Given the large number of available models, I have created separate pages for each cable diameter:
Dimensions
The dimensions of the spools are detailed in the design diagram. Each model’s filename reflects its specific dimensions:
LR2346-H<height>-W<width>-L<length>-C<cable diameter>-R<rim height>.3mf
- Width (W): The outer width of the spool in millimeters.
- Length (L): The outer length of the spool in millimeters.
- Cable Diameter (C): Represented in tenths of a millimeter.
- Rim Height (R): The height of the rim that secures the cable.
The PDF catalog provides estimated cable length per spool model, depicted as a single layer wound around the spool, as illustrated in the project photos.
